Fusion-Spliced.
OTDR-Certified.
Every Span.
AIT installs and certifies enterprise fiber optic infrastructure — OS2 single-mode and OM3/OM4 multi-mode — with core-alignment fusion splicing, OTDR trace certification from both ends, and end-face inspection on every connector. Full documentation at closeout.
Watch a complete fiber optic installation.
From conduit pull to OTDR certification — see how AIT fusion-splices and certifies a complete fiber backbone. Every span traced from both ends with full documentation delivered at closeout.
From conduit to cloud-ready backbone.
A five-step process from route survey to full OTDR-certified documentation.
Route Survey
Identify conduit paths, measure distances, assess existing infrastructure, plan for minimum bend radius and access points.
Cable Installation
Pull OS2 or OM3/OM4 fiber through conduit, innerduct, or exposed pathway with proper pulling tension and bend radius management.
Fusion Splicing
Core-alignment fusion splice at every mechanical joint. Average splice loss below 0.1 dB — verified by splicer’s built-in OTDR estimate before enclosure.
OTDR Certification
Trace every span from both ends. Full event map, loss budget, reflectance, and pass/fail result for every span and connector.
Documentation
Full OTDR trace reports, loss budget calculations, end-face inspection photos, splice tray assignments, and as-built routing diagrams.
Hardware Ecosystem
AIT uses professional-grade fiber, fusion splicers, and OTDR equipment on every job.
OS2 Single-Mode Fiber
OS2 tight-buffer and loose-tube cable for inter-building and long-haul backbone runs. Supports 10G, 40G, and 100G at any practical campus distance with negligible attenuation.
OM3/OM4 Multi-Mode Fiber
OM4 laser-optimized multi-mode for intrabuilding backbone. Supports 10G to 400m and 40G/100G at shorter distances. Cost-effective for within-building distribution.
Core-Alignment Fusion Splicer
Professional core-alignment fusion splicer. Every splice tested before enclosure. Average loss below 0.05 dB — well under the 0.1 dB maximum.
OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer)
Traces every span from both ends — identifying every event: splices, connectors, bends, breaks. Full event map, loss budget, and reflectance measurements.
Fiber Enclosures & Patch Panels
1U and 2U rack-mount fiber patch panels, wall-mount splice enclosures, and splice cassettes. All ports labelled, numbered, and keyed to your cable schedule.
MTP/MPO Trunk Cables
Factory-terminated 12 and 24-fiber MTP/MPO trunk cables for high-density data center and distribution backbone. Tested, labeled, and ready to install.
OS2, OM3, OM4 — the right glass for every run.
AIT installs all fiber types across all application scenarios.
Inter-Building OSP
Armored direct-bury or aerial OS2 cable for campus and between-building connections. Gel-filled loose-tube for outdoor moisture resistance. Any distance.
IDF-to-MDF Riser
OS2 or OM4 riser cable between IDFs and MDF. Typically 12–24 fiber count with LC/SC connectors terminated in rack-mount enclosures at each end.
Data Center Backbone
High-density OM4 MTP/MPO trunk cables for core-switch-to-server connections. Supports 40G/100G with MPO-8 or MPO-12 breakout cassettes.
Emergency Splice & Repair
On-call fiber repair for cut or damaged cables. Fusion splice restoration with OTDR verification — typically same-day response in the Chicago metro area.
OTDR Recertification
Re-certify existing fiber plant after moves, adds, or changes. OTDR traces both ends, new loss budget report, and updated cable schedule documentation.
End-Face Inspection
Every connector inspected per IEC 61300-3-35. Contaminated connectors cleaned and re-inspected. Microscope photos included.
OTDR-traced. Loss-budget-verified.
Every fiber run AIT installs is tested to industry standards with documented results.
OTDR Traced Both Ends
Every span traced from both directions. Full event map with distance and dB values per event.
Loss Budget Analysis
Maximum allowable insertion loss calculated for every span. If measured loss exceeds budget, the span is reworked before closeout.
IEC 61300-3-35 End-Face Inspection
Every connector end-face inspected with fiber microscope. Any contamination cleaned and re-inspected. Photos in documentation package.
ANSI/TIA-568.3-D Compliance
All fiber installations follow ANSI/TIA-568.3-D — splice tray capacity, enclosure standards, bend radius, and pull tension all per specification.
Right-sized for every fiber project.
From a single riser run to a full campus OSP backbone — AIT installs and certifies it all.

Splice & Repair
Everything you need to know.
OS2 is single-mode — ideal for long distances (campus, inter-building) and any bandwidth. OM3 and OM4 are multi-mode — cost-effective for shorter runs. OM4 supports 10G to 400m. We’ll recommend the right type based on your distances and bandwidth needs.
Fusion splicing thermally joins two fiber ends with an electric arc — creating a continuous glass connection with typical loss below 0.05 dB. It’s stronger and lower-loss than mechanical splicing. For permanent backbone runs, fusion splicing is the professional standard.
An OTDR sends a light pulse into the fiber and measures reflections over distance. It identifies every event on the span: splices, connectors, bends, and breaks. We trace from both ends because some events are only visible from one direction.
Yes. We install armored direct-bury OS2 cable for underground runs and lashed aerial cable for overhead routes. We handle conduit boring, pull boxes, and vault installation when required.
Yes — same-day emergency fiber repair in the Chicago metro area. We’ll locate the break with OTDR, expose the cable, fusion splice the repair, and re-certify with a new OTDR trace.
Every fiber project includes: OTDR trace reports from both ends, loss budget calculations, end-face inspection photos, splice tray assignment map, and as-built routing diagrams. All as PDF at project closeout.
